Love
You can’t prepare to fall in love. Anxiously anticipating our first date, I felt both nervous and excited at the same time. I spent time making sure I was properly groomed and arrived far too early. When our eyes first met, my heart skipped a beat. We talked for hours into the night. Later in the evening we gave each other a lengthy hug. It melted me – I literally felt weak in the knees, and shaky, as if I would collapse at any moment. She had captured my heart. I was already falling in love.
Romantic love - what a multifaceted experience it can be. The physical effects alone are diverse. One moment feeling weak, with your stomach in knots, the next, total exhilaration. Those strong emotions can shape the relationship and be life changing. So, it’s no surprise that how we express our feelings is also powerful. Even the littlest phrases have meaning and impact, such as those three simple words, I love you.
For me, one avenue for expressing my love is with words. Writing has such an ability to convey how you feel and can have a significant impact on someone. I wanted to share both a poem, If We Could, and song, Melody of my Heart, I wrote expressing such love. Although they both took time, it was easy to do, as it came from the heart, and every word was true.
